Jeremy Sylvester’s musical journey began at birth, influenced by his father, a member of the successful 1980s disco group J.A.L.N. Band. Growing up, Jeremy was inspired by American artists like Chic, Chaka Khan, Diana Ross, Delegation, and Kool and the Gang.
His initial foray into music production took place in his father’s Eye to Eye Studio in Handsworth, Birmingham. Jeremy started with rave music inspired by reggae before transitioning into drum and bass. In 1994, he co-founded the record label Dubtronix with his father, producing successful tracks such as “Screwface” and “Fantasy.”
Jeremy’s career path took an unexpected turn when he became a DJ to connect directly with audiences. He played deep NY house music on local pirate radio stations and in clubs worldwide. This hands-on experience led him to Nice ‘n’ Ripe Records, where he produced tracks under various aliases: SLY, Deep Cover, Groove Connection, G.O.D, and Sylvester.
After moving to London, Jeremy immersed himself in the vibrant House and Garage scene. He founded the production/remix outfit Club Asylum, remixing for artists like All Saints, Jodeci, KC & JoJo, Shola Ama, Dionne Rakeem, and many others, maintaining an underground sound.
Jeremy signed with Azuli Records, releasing hits like “Coke, Sex and Drugs” under the name Electronica, which reached number 14 in the Cool Cuts chart. He also produced the track “Strangled” under Multiply Records, a remake of the Stranglers’ hit “Peaches.”
As part of Class A, Jeremy remixed for artists such as Eddie Grant, Gambafreaks, DJ Disciple, 10CC, and many more. He was also signed to Roger Sanchez’s Stealth Records as Pure Orange, with the track “Gained” reaching number one in the Cool Cuts charts and number two in the Buzz Charts.
Jeremy closely collaborated with singer/songwriter Victoria Horn, co-forming the group Feela and releasing records with Azuli Records. In 2022, he won the prestigious DJ Mag Awards Underground Hero Award for his significant contributions to the UK dance scene.
Jeremy launched the club night Garage Paradise in 2022, focusing on cutting-edge underground house and garage music. He currently runs two record labels: Urban Dubz Music, showcasing his various aliases, and Garage Paradise Music, set to launch in 2024 with his album “Underground Hero,” featuring a spectrum of sounds from 2-step to 90s-style garage house.
Jeremy has worked with labels such as Stealth Records, Azuli Records, Nice ‘n’ Ripe, Defected Records, Diamondhouse Records, Positiva, BMG, Universal Records, Island Records, Softone Recordings, Kitchenware Records, Cool Pool Ltd, Ministry of Sound, and Atlantic Jaxx. He recently signed a new publishing deal with “Songs in the Key of Knife,” part of the legendary Hospital Records.
